Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) – Los Angeles / Beverly Hills

The effects of aging on the skin are familiar to all of us. Over time, the skin changes in four ways: it loses thickness, loses elasticity, loses adherence to the underlying tissue, and is affected by gravity. Droopy, sagging upper arms can make you feel self conscious in a short sleeve shirt or tank top. The soft tissue of the arm becomes lax, setting the stage for ptosis (sagging) after massive weight loss. Normal weight individual, too, may have sagging upper arms due to the effects of aging and genetics. Also known as brachioplasty, an arm lift reshapes the under portion of the upper arm, from the underarm region to the elbow. It can be done with or without liposuction to help create a well-defined, trim and toned upper arm that complements your figure as well as your wardrobe. Today's arm lift techniques are safer and the scars are much less conspicuous than they have been in the past.

Recovery

After the procedure you will feel groggy. Your arm will be placed in a special compression garment to help the newly-sculpted skin adhere to the tissue underneath. You will probably have several layers of stitches on the upper arm, possibly with a drain inserted to help the skin to adhere to the underlying tissue. For the first week following surgery, you will have to avoid strenuous activity. On the third day after surgery you will be able to shower. The swelling is mild to moderate with peaks on day two to three. Any stitches that are not absorbed will be removed after about a week.
