FOREHEAD AND BROW LIFTS

Also called forehead lift, a browlift is a plastic surgery procedure that will raise droopy eyebrows to a higher and more aesthetic position. It will also improve lateral hoods, which are the droopy flaps of skin that hang over the outside corner of your eyes. Plastic surgery of your forehead will also soften your horizontal forehead wrinkles and the scowl lines between your eyebrows.

Brow lift may be performed in several ways. There are three commonly used techniques:

  • Coronal lift
  • Endoscopic lift
  • Subcutaneous lift

A coronal forehead lift involves an incision at the top of your head behind your hairline pulling up the skin and altering the muscles that cause forehead wrinkles and scowling. This is the most permanent and long lasting technique.

Endoscopic forehead lift requires four to six short vertical incisions on your head behind your hairline, through the small incisions; an endoscope which has a tiny camera on the end is inserted under the skin, Once done, the skin on the forehead is pulled up and held in place with temporary screws which are later removed or absorbed by your body.

Endoscopic lifts, like coronal lifts, raise your hairline.

Pre hairline forehead lifts are designed for people with high foreheads and is performed with an incision whereby the hair grows through the incision hiding it.

Hairline advancement forehead lifts lower a high hairline or correct the shape of a hairline as well as correct the muscles and raise the eyebrows.

Recovery

You will experience a certain amount of swelling and bruising in the 10-day period following surgery. In some patients, this condition may include the cheek and eye area as well as the forehead. You will be advised to keep your head elevated in order to reduce swelling. Cold compresses may further reduce swelling. As the incisions heal, you may experience some numbness as well as itching, both of which will diminish with time. The sutures are usually removed within seven to 10 days following surgery. It is important to follow the advice of your surgeon on resuming normal activities. For most patients, the recovery time will not exceed one to two weeks, but patients may still be advised to avoid strenuous activities for longer periods. Any prolonged bruising can be camouflaged with standard make-up techniques.
