Hairline Lowering in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills

Many men and woman have a very high hairline. This can be lowered to a normal level. Some individuals naturally have a high hairline. Others have a high hairline as the result of a forehead or browlift. These individuals find that not only are their brows elevated by the surgery, but also their hairlines are raised unnaturally. The incision is placed at the hairline over the hair bulbs so that the hair grows thru the incision making it inconspicuous.

Hairline Advancement (Shortening of Long Forehead) for Women A Simple, Quick Procedure Those women who have a high forehead/high hairline and have hair styling problems from this, now may have a simple solution. Many of these situations can be treated with a simple one-stage hairline advancement operation which would enable the patient to appear in public within 2–3 days of the operation with a new, lower hairline with full length hair. With little two moderate swelling and bruising can take up to 1 week to resolve.

This operation, costs much less than more commonly employed follicular unit grafting, which would require two to three sessions and take many months before achieving a comparable result. This operation can also be combined with a forehead or brow lift to achieve the optimal result in those with both a high hairline and aging, drooping brows. If the scalp is tight and more than 3 cm of advancement is needed, the following two-stage procedure can be considered.

Expansion Assisted Hairline Advancement

The first stage of frontal expansion surgery consists of inserting a semi-circular shaped expander under the scalp behind the frontal hairline. After a period of healing takes place, the expander is gradually inflated by injecting sterile water so that the scalp is gradually stretched. Inflations are performed every three to five days during the next four to eight weeks, until the desired amount of stretching has been achieved. During the second and final surgery, the device is removed and the expanded hair-bearing scalp is moved forward, replacing the top section of the high forehead. A hairline can be moved as far as 6 cm with this approach.

Recovery

Patients who have the hairline lowering or forehead reduction surgery will experience numbness in the front of the scalp behind the incision, some swelling and bruising in the forehead, head, or even the eye or cheek area. This can take up to a couple of weeks to resolve, but individuals vary on their recovery time. Many patients are healed enough to go back to work after a week. Immediately post-op, you should use ice compresses to relieve the pain and swelling. Your forehead and head will be loosely wrapped overnight, which further helps to minimize swelling.
