Educational Background
Dr. Richard Ellenbogen began his medical career at the University of Florida, where he showed advanced skills in both pre-medicine and art courses. After receiving an undergraduate degree, he completed a medical degree at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine in 1968; general surgery training in New York City; and a plastic, maxillofacial and reconstructive surgery residency at the State University of New York (SUNY). Because of an interest in correcting birth defects with plastic surgery procedures, Dr. Ellenbogen served a fellowship at the Red Cross Hospital in The Hague, Netherlands. Returning to the United States, Dr. Ellenbogen performed an additional fellowship program in hand surgery at the highly regarded Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City, while also serving as an Assistant Police Surgeon.
Accomplishments of Dr. Ellenbogen
Originally a portrait artist, Dr. Ellenbogen has become one of Los Angeles' top plastic surgeons. He has written several textbooks and journal articles on a wide range of plastic surgery procedures, including facelift, eyelid surgery, forehead lift, underarm breast enlargement, advanced liposuction techniques, nose surgery and silicone research. Several of the techniques he has pioneered are still in use today by plastic surgeons all over the world.
In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, Dr. Ellenbogen has received the prestigious "Physicians Recognition Award" by the American Medical Association two times, and has been invited to serve as a Clinical Instructor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Southern California. In addition, he is the Director of a highly competitive prestigious post-graduate fellowship program in advanced aesthetic surgery and is regarded internationally as the "Father of Fat Grafting."
The Founder of State of the Art Plastic Surgery Center and leading surgeon of Beverly Hills Body, Dr. Ellenbogen focuses his practice on cosmetic surgery, reconstructive birth defects surgery and consulting on complex reconstructive surgery procedures. Committed to remaining current with the latest plastic surgery technologies and techniques, Dr. Ellenbogen annually attends and lectures at international conferences.
Dr. Ellenbogen is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons.
