A face lift removes excess skin and repositions fat and muscles to correct deep lines from the nose to the mouth, and minimal to moderate neck laxity which occur with aging.

The incision is made in front of the ear, inside the ear, and then extends behind the ear by the earlobe. The skin, fat, and muscle are separated, lifted and then re-draped to a more youthful-appearing position. Often times, the fat and muscle are sutured in place to prevent premature descent. Extra care is taken in suturing the incision to minimize the scar, rendering it virtually invisible after the initial healing period.

The Face lift Procedure
The face lift procedure may be performed under twilight sedation or general anesthesia, depending upon Dr. Ellenbogen’s recommendation and patients preference. The incisions are made behind the hairline and may extent around the head, depending upon the extent of the face lift required. During procedure, Dr. Ellenbogen may lift excess tissue, muscle and/or skin to reposition and suture into place. Following surgery, you will rest comfortably and may be transferred to an aftercare facility for recovery care before returning home.
The Face lift Recovery
Prior to the facelift procedure, you will receive a list of instructions to follow in order to enhance recovery. This may include: having someone to stay with you during initial 24 hours or more after the procedure and using gauze pads soaked in ice chips to reduce swelling often each day. Dr. Ellenbogen will meet with you in the days following the procedure to help ensure a smooth recovery. The results may change, depending upon lifestyle habits such as smoking which may adversely impact the results of the procedure over time. People are most often content with the results from the face lift for ten to fifteen or more years time.
Facelift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under intravenous sedation or general anesthesia dependent upon what is best for the individual patient. Stitches are removed in 7 to 10 days. Most patients return to work after 2 weeks. For patients interested in traveling to southern California or Los Angeles, facelift surgery necessitates usually a minimum one-week stay. Minimal discomfort occurs after the facelift however bruising and swelling usually can take around 2 weeks to resolve.
