Frequently Asked Questions BEVERLY HILLS / LOS ANGELES

Am I a candidate for Rhinoplasty?

If you are unhappy with the appearance of your nose, then you may be a candidate for rhinoplasty. This procedure, also called nose surgery, can be performed to correct a wide range of aesthetic imperfections in your nose. It can also be performed to open up your nasal passages to make breathing easier.

During your initial consultation at our Beverly Hills office, Dr. Richard Ellenbogen will evaluate your nose and listen carefully to your aesthetic goals in order to determine if you are a good candidate for rhinoplasty. While the procedure is commonly performed on young people, it is important that you wait until your nose is fully developed to move forward with your nose surgery. This typically occurs at age 14 or 15 for girls, and in the late teenage years for boys.

Rhinoplasty can be performed to improve the following issues:

A nose that is too large or too small
A bent or crooked nose
Humps or bumps on the bridge of the nose
A misshapen nose
A wide nose
A nose with a bulbous tip
Flared or pinched nostrils
Asymmetrical nostrils

Dr. Ellenbogen will consider your entire face when performing your rhinoplasty to make sure that your new nose restores balance to all of your facial features. This approach helps him achieve beautiful, natural looking results.

If you would like to find out whether you are a good candidate for rhinoplasty, please contact Beverly Hills Body today to schedule your initial consultation. Dr. Richard Ellenbogen serves patients in Lost Angeles, Beverly Hills, and Hollywood, California.

Am I a candidate for a Face Lift?

A face lift is an effective way to improve the signs of aging and take years off of your appearance. However, it is important to make sure you are a good candidate before moving forward with the procedure. The best way to find out whether a face lift is right for you is to speak with Dr. Richard Ellenbogen in person.

During your initial consultation at our Beverly Hills office, Dr. Ellenbogen will evaluate the following factors to determine if you are an ideal candidate for a face lift:

Skin elasticity – The best candidates have supple, flexible skin. This is important since your skin will be stretched to smooth out wrinkles during a face lift.

Bone structure – Strong, well-defined bone structure will help provide support and ensure long lasting results. If you do not have strong bone structure, Dr. Ellenbogen may recommend facial implants in conjunction with your face lift for enhanced results.

Loose skin – Most face lift candidates have excess skin on the face or neck which can be trimmed and tightened to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

In addition, good candidates for a face lift are in good overall health, have realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure, and either does not smoke or is willing to quit for the duration of the procedure and recovery period.

Age is less of a factor in determining whether you are a good face lift candidate than the criteria listed above. While most face lift patients are between the ages of 40 and 70, excellent results can be achieved well into your 70s or 80s.

Am I a candidate for Brow Lift?

Most people contemplating a brow lift, which is also referred to as a forehead lift, experience drooping eyebrows that can cause frown lines. These lines result in seemingly unfavorable facial expressions and can cause you to have a worried, tired, angry or sad appearance. Many Beverly Hills residents undergo brow lift surgery in order to achieve an overall younger and refreshed facial appearance.

To determine if you are a candidate for a brow lift, evaluate the following:

  • Does the area in between your eyebrows contain frown lines or creases?
  • Do your eyebrows either sag or are they positioned low?
  • Does your forehead have excessive horizontal grooves?

If your answer to one or more of these questions is yes, then a brow lift may be an excellent option for you. The best way to determine whether a brow lift is the right procedure to address your aesthetic goals is to speak with Dr. Richard Ellenbogenin person. During your consultation, he will listen carefully to your concerns and goals and evaluate your signs of facial aging in order to recommend the appropriate treatment plan for your needs.

Am I a candidate for Abdominoplasty?

If you have excess fat around your abdominal area, and if a regimen of many sit-ups and other exercises designed to tighten your abdominal muscles is not helping you to achieve a flatter stomach, you might be an excellent candidate for abdominoplasty. The purpose of an abdominoplasty, which is commonly referred to as a tummy tuck, is to tighten your abdominal muscles. The end result is a flatter, more contoured stomach.

Not everyone qualifies as a good candidate for abdominoplasty. If you are considering this procedure, make sure you meet the following criteria:

  • You are in overall good health
  • You are not excessively overweight
  • You have excessive fat or loose skin around your mid-section
  • You are not attempting to use abdominoplasty as a method of losing weight
  • You are not planning to lose a significant amount of weight after the procedure
  • If you are a woman, you are not anticipating any future pregnancies

The best way to determine whether you are an ideal abdominoplasty is to speak with Dr. Richard Ellenbogen in person. During your initial consultation at our Beverly Hills plastic surgery office, Dr. Ellenbogen will listen carefully to your aesthetic goals and evaluate your body type in order to recommend the ideal procedure to achieve your desired results.

What medications should I avoid before surgery?

There is a long list of medications AND SUPPLEMENTS that you will need to avoid for at least 2 weeks before and after surgery to avoid complications. Bring a list of EVERYTHING you take to your plastic surgeon early on so he/she can tell you what you need to cut out and when. A few to avoid for sure: Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Vitamin E. Again, check with your doctor for details!

Hospital, Surgical Center, Office - Does it matter where the surgeon performs surgery?

Where surgery is performed depends largely on the surgeon. In terms of safety and results, no surgical facility is inherently superior to any other. The American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities gives accreditation to facilities that have established and adopted standardized protocols and routines (similar to those used in hospitals). These facilities have been subjected to rigorous inspections that examine safety equipment and procedures (like backup power and emergency medications), office layout, staffing, record-keeping and a variety of other issues. Therefore, you may want to add “Accreditation” as something to consider when deciding on a Plastic Surgeon.

I want to look good for my upcoming wedding/ reunion/trip. How long will it take for me to recover after my surgery so I can look good at the event?

This is not a good idea. Ask you doctor for a range when it comes to healing time. Healing time differs from person to person and from procedure to procedure. You need to schedule your surgery when you have time to recuperate and have post-operative appointment.

Some surgeons are referred to as 'Plastic Surgeons' while others use the title 'cosmetic Surgeon' - Is there a difference?

Surgery. A cosmetic surgeon can be a dermotologist, gynocologist, dentist– or any other kind of doctor who has taken some courses to learn a cosmetic procedure. This can be somewhat extensive training– or a weekend crash course. Your best bet is to go with someone with YEARS of experience in performing aesthetic and reconstructive procedures (a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon will have this type of experience).
